Died of wounds 3/11/1914 aged 28 and buried in Bailleul Communal Cemetery, Nord, France.
Born in Portsmouth in 1886, son of William and Amelia, brother of Caroline, Bessie, Alice, Ethel, Elsie, Ernest, Esther and Edmund and husband of Mary. In 1891 the family were living at 34 Stone St, Southsea, by 1901 the family had moved to 109 St Vincent St, Southsea and his father was a general labourer. He had joined the army by 1911 and was a Corporal in the 1st Bn Hampshire Regiment and was stationed at Badajos Barracks, Wellington Lines, Aldershot. By the end of the war, his wife was living at “Santa Rosa” Bridge St, Titchfield. He had entered France on 23/8/1914 with the first arrivals of the Hampshire Regiment in the war.
